Zada Johnson Edwards, 88, of Albany, GA, peacefully died on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at her residence. Her cremains will be interred at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church, and a private family memorial service will be held. Rev Hale Bishop will officiate.
Mrs. Edwards was born on March 28, 1934, to the late Hershel and Margaret Johnson and was one of fifteen children. She grew up in Plains, Americus, and Albany. She graduated in 1952 from Albany High School and met and married a young Turner Field Airman the same year. For the next 20 years, she lived all over the continental United States, Hawaii, and Japan as the supporting wife of an officer before finally settling in her hometown of Albany, GA to be closer to family and friends.
She was a loving wife, mom, Gran, and was an influential presence in all of her roles. As a member of Porterfield Memorial United Church, she was active with the Alter Guilde, the United Methodist Women, Sunday School, and a Circle Leader. Mrs. Edwards was passionate about her hobbies and passed on her knowledge of gardening, painting, baking, and bowling to all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Gran’s legacy will never be forgotten, and all the lives she touched are forever grateful to have had her on Earth. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son so that all who believe in Him might not perish but might receive Everlasting Life.” -John 3:16.
Survivors include her husband of 71 years, Russell J. “Russ” Edwards of Albany, GA, two daughters, Lynn (David) Willis of Sylvester, GA and Lori Bullington of Albany, GA, her grandchildren, Tracey (Kirby) Rust of Atlanta, GA, Megan Cook of Palm Coast, FL, Glenn (Amy) Bullington of Lee County, GA, Shay Willis of Sylvester, GA and William (Liz) Bullington of Tampa, FL, her great-grandchildren, Declan Bullington and Maddux Suggs, a sister, Jean (Gordon) Kennedy of Savannah, GA and many nieces and nephews.
