Zacharie “Zack” Allen Strickland, 77, of Lee County, passed away peacefully on October 05, 2024, surrounded by family at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. There will be a Celebration of Life at a future date.
Zack was a loving and caring husband, father, father-in-law, Papa, brother, brother-in-law, and friend. Known for his kindness and generosity throughout the community, he will be missed by all who knew him.
Zack was born in Albany, GA, on May 25, 1947, to the late Harvey and Mattie Strickland. He graduated from Albany High School in 1965 and went on to graduate from Georgia Southwestern College in Americus with a bachelor’s degree in history. On April 20, 1974, he married his high school sweetheart Dianne, and they started a wonderful family together. Zack enjoyed going places with his family, watching his children and then grandchildren play sports, going on family vacations, and everything associated with being the best “Papa” in the world. An avid golfer, he enjoyed his weekly outings to the golf course with his lifelong friend. Zack also had a love for hot rod cars and trucks, often going to shows and cruise-ins in his spare time. A lover of history, he was also active in the civil war reenacting and living history community as a Major in the 2nd Georgia Artillery Company. As a lifelong John Wayne fan, Zack enjoyed watching classic American western movies and TV shows (especially if “The Duke” was in the film).
In his professional life, Zack worked at Lilliston Corporation for a number of years conducting field test activities before striking out as an entrepreneur to start his company DASH Diversified. Later in life, he worked as a contractor to Asset Inspections of Guthrie Center, Iowa inspecting and appraising farm tractors and equipment. Zack was an active member of the Exchange Club of Albany for years supporting the values of Americanism, Community Service, Youth, and Prevention of Child Abuse in the Albany community.
Preceded in death by his wife Dianne Marsh Strickland, brother Irwin Strickland (Penny), and sister Peggy Davis (Jack), survivors include two daughters Kelli Simmons (Michael) and Heather Bryant (Chris), two grandchildren Emma Bryant and Harper Bryant all of Lee County, brother-in-law Gary Marsh (Uschi) of Fairborn, OH, and his faithful canine companion Ziva.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Zack’s memory be mailed to the Lee County Animal Shelter, 101 Mossy Dell Road, Leesburg, GA 31763.
