Woodrow Watson “Woody” Daughtry, Sr., 103, passed away peacefully April 14, 2025 at The Oaks Assisted Living in Leesburg, GA.
Funeral services will be held on Good Friday, April 18, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Albany Bible Church. Pastor Pete Daughtry will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.
A native of Pelham, GA, Mr. Daughtry was born at home to William Seth and Hilda Eaton Daughtry on November 11, 1921. He was the son of a sharecropper and the family moved often, ending up in Albany, GA at the age of twelve. His first jobs were delivering Western Union Telegrams by bicycle and dry cleaning for Jimmy Faulkner’s Dry Cleaners. Mr. Daughtry married Mildred Hill in 1942 and they enjoyed 75 years together. He was described by his siblings and children as The Rock of the family and a man of great integrity. Mr. Daughtry was a machinist by trade.
He served in the Navy Construction Battalion in the Pacific theater during World War II. Following the war he was employed at Maxwell Welding and Coats and Clark before working and retiring in 1984 from the Marine Corps Logistic Base as a Maintenance Foreman. He also served on the board of AGE Federal Credit Union for 25 years during his retirement. Mr. Daughtry was a member of Albany Bible Church where he served on the Board of Deacons. He was also a 68 year member of Triangle Lodge # 708 F&AM and during his life enjoyed camping, fishing, quail hunting and deer hunting.
Mr. Daughtry was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Hill Daughtry, three brothers and six sisters.
Survivors include his sons, Pete (Peggy) Daughtry, Tony (Belinda) Daughtry and Todd (April) Daughtry all of Lee County, GA; six grandchildren: Eric (Debbie) Daughtry, David (Amanda) Daughtry, Flannery Ishoy (Drew) all of Lee County, GA; Paige (Pepper) Greene of Americus, GA; Patti Daughtry of Jackson, GA and Haley Alexander (Jordan) of Canton, GA; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Bertice Maxwell of Cairo, GA and Betty Jo Flounlacker of Pensacola, FL.
The family will receive friends Friday from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm before the service at Albany Bible Church.
