William Alton Turner, 87, of Leesburg, GA, died May 12, 2014 at Palmyra Nursing Home. Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Sand Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Rupert, GA. Rev. Bobby Moye will officiate.
A native of Rupert, GA, he was born to the late John William and Ruth Elizabeth Turner. After attending school in Ellaville, GA, Mr. Turner joined the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and served in Germany.
He moved to Albany, GA in 1948 and had resided in Lee County, GA since 1956. Mr. Turner was a self-employed automobile mechanic and was the owner of Turner's Garage until his retirement. He was a long time member of the Leesburg United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by his wife, Armenda Purvis Turner.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Buddy and Jeannie Turner of Leesburg, GA, two daughters and their husbands, Judy and Mike Houston of Perry, GA and Lynn and Duane Wilkes of Leesburg, GA, a brother, Boyette Turner, five grandchildren, Michael Houston, Holly (Ron) Lick, Shane (Jessica) Wilkes, Mendy (Casey) Slappey, Kayla (Ryan) Peters, eleven great-grandchildren, Zach Houston, Cameron Houston, Wesley Lick, Parker Lick, Caleigh Ana Lick, Bailey Biedrzycki, Mollie Slappey, Hunter Wilkes, Sara Wilkes, Ryleigh Peters and John Slappey.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Wednesday at Mathews Funeral Home.
