William Fred Lynch

William Fred Lynch (1915-2012), devoted husband, father, grandfather, server of mankind and friend to many, passed away August 26, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving family! If weather permits, graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery, if not, services will be conducted at Mathews Funeral Home. Dr. William E. (Butch) Knight, Jr. will officiate.

Fred was born in Everett Springs, GA on April19, 1915 and was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Evelyn Joyce Lynch and his eldest daughter, Bunny Roesel. He was a resident of Albany and attended First Baptist Church since 1969. Prior to moving to Albany, he managed Tom Mitchell Lumber Company in New Smyrna Beach, FL, for twenty five years. He moved from New Smyrna Beach to Albany to work with his late brother, Claude Lynch, owner of Gibson's.

Since 1969, his focus and heart was on feeding the hungry and caring for the less fortunate. He had a food ministry and jail ministry for 25 years! He worked in a food kitchen and delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Fred started and led the Brotherhood Ministry at First Baptist Church for many years and was responsible for building churches, homes, and ramps for the handicapped.

He received the honor of the "Young Man of the Year Award" in 1952, in New Smyrna Beach, FL, his family was chosen "Family of the Year" at the First Baptist Church of Albany, GA in 1974 and he received the "Golden Deed Award," March 17, 1992, in Albany, GA.

He is survived by three daughters, Jeanette Penberthy, Barbara Dillon, and Patricia Hardin; seven granddaughters, Kim Wackenhut, Kathy Pritchard, Robin Brown, Michele Lay, Melissa Young, Heather Braden, Hope Hardin and one grandson, Jerry Penberthy. He is survived by nine great-granddaughters, ten great-grandsons, two great-great-granddaughters and two great-great-grandsons! He is also proud of his FIVE Generation Picture. He demonstrated a life well lived, with much integrity, and will be truly missed!
