William Earl Knight, Sr. passed to be with the Lord on October 24, 2016 at the Willson Hospice House in Albany, GA at the age of 76. William was born to his parents, Joseph E. Knight and Ora White Knight, in Covington, TN on October 7, 1940. Growing up he lived both in Covington and in Memphis, TN, attending Humes High School. William married his wife Ruby Griffin on November 21, 1959. In 1977, William and Ruby moved their family to Slayden, MS, making their home there. He was a member of Slayden Baptist Church and served in various ministries including the church's deacon ministry. He especially enjoyed his Sunday School class. William worked in the Chevrolet automobile parts business in the Memphis-area for over forty years before his retirement.
William is preceded in death by his wife of fifty-six years, Ruby Knight; his parents, Joseph E. Knight and Ora White Knight; his step-mother Vera "Dempy" Winberry Knight; his brothers, Billy Knight and Gordon Knight; and his sister Barbara Naragon.
William's survivors include his sons William (Butch) Knight Jr. and his wife Ginny, and Randall Wayne Knight and his wife Beth; his sisters, Betty Ann Bogue and Sharon Winberry; his step-sisters, Carolyn Stacks and Linda Harvell; his step-brothers, Dennis Winberry, Daniel Winberry, and David Winberry. He leaves as well a legacy of love in his seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Slayden Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 9 AM -- 11 AM, then the service at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow the service at Slayden Cemetery.
