William Sidney Johnson

William Sidney Johnson, 72, of Lee Co., GA died Friday, May 17, 2019 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Chris Ortega will officiate. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery with military honors.

Born in Brunswick, GA, Mr. Johnson had resided in Lee Co., GA for forty plus years. He was retired from the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office where he served as a deputy sheriff. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving two tours and was the recipient of the Silver Star Medal and Purple Heart Medal with Two Gold Stars. Sidney served the citizens of Lee County as a volunteer EMT, fire & rescue as well as an assistant coroner. He also served the citizens of Leesburg over the years as a City Commissioner until he resigned in 2017. Sidney was a member  of Saint Teresa’s Catholic Church and was preceded in death by his parents, William E. Johnson and Omie C. McGough and his wife Shirley Dianne Bozeman Johnson.

Survivors include a son, Steven Clinton Johnson and his wife Sojnia, Monticello, KY, a daughter, Jennifer Johnson Potter and her husband Jeffrey, two sisters, Emma Sue Clark, Warsaw, VA, Ruth Clark, TX and grandchildren, Calum Ian Dunbar, Kieran Rori Dunbar,  Addison Renee Potter, Caitlin Denise Potter, Charlee Ann Johnson and Laurel Kate Johnson.

The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
