William A. "Sonny" Hatfield, Jr.

William A. “Sonny” Hatfield, Jr., passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.    Graveside funeral services will be conducted Monday, October 30, 2017, at 11:00 am, at Leesburg Cemetery.  Rev. Steve Johnson will officiate.  The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Mathews Funeral Home.

Born in Eufaula, AL., to the late William and Ellene Hatfield, Mr. Hatfield worked for Cooper Lighting in Americus GA, where he was a forklift operator for 33 years. Sonny was very active in his church and loved the lord and sharing his word with others. He was a loving husband to his wife of 51 years and a devoted father to his 4 children. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was active in their lives. When he was not spending time with his grandchildren he enjoyed camping and fishing. 

Sonny was preceded in death by a brother Carl Hatfield and two sisters Olivia Parmer and Mona Wingate.  Survivors include his wife Martha Hatfield of Albany, GA, daughters Esther (Mike) Matre and Vickie (Shane) Byas all of Lee County, two sons Frank (Mary) Hatfield of
Americus, GA, and Rick Hatfield and his girlfriend Jana Patton of Tifton, GA, Grandchildren Brooke (Cory) Stewart, Taylor Hatfield, Deanna Byas, Isaac Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Luke Hatfield, Parker Matre, Emma Matre, Riley Matre, Mikayla Matre, and Marlee Matre,  one Great Grandchild Eli Stewart, two brothers Russell (Vallie) Hatfield, and Dale Hatfield.
