William Snyder Fleming

William S. (Bill) Fleming, 101, died Friday, February 9, 2018 at Wynfield Park and Rehabilitation Center.  Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home.  Mr. Bill Ashbury and Rev. William Collins will officiate.  Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery with the American Legion Post # 30 providing Military Honors.

Mr. Fleming was born August 14, 1916 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Atlanta, GA.  He grew up on the West End and attended Tech High School, Georgia Tech Evening School and the New York Institute of Finance.  Mr. Fleming served in the United States Naval Reserve and the United States Navy in World II in both the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters.  After World War II, he lived in Athens, GA and was employed with Courts and Co.   In 1949 Mr. Fleming was transferred to Albany, GA to serve as Branch Manager of Courts and Co. and was the Branch Manager of A.G Edwards until his retirement in 1981.  Mr. Fleming was an avid golfer with two holes in one to his credit.

Mr. Fleming was Past Commander of the Flint River Power Squadron, a charter member of Doublegate Country Club, a member of the Albany Rotary Club and The Sons of Confederate Veterans.  He was also a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #30, was a volunteer at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital and was a member and Deacon at the First Christian Church of Albany.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Martha Jim Dillard Fleming in 1982 and was recently by his second wife, Jean Cowart Fleming.  Survivors include his daughter, Kathryn “Kathy” Fleming Pate of Albany, GA, a son, William “Bill” Lunsford Fleming and his wife, Beverly of Birmingham, AL, three grandchildren, Thomas Douglas Fleming and his wife, Kelly and Christopher Paul Fleming and his wife, Brandi all of Birmingham, AL and Thomas Andrew Pate and his wife, Meghan of Albany, GA and four great-grandchildren, Christina Lynn Fleming, Kathryn Grace Fleming, Collier Malone Pate and Charles Neill Pate.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home.
