Wanda Sue Jones Bridges

Wanda Sue Jones Bridges, 85, of Sasser, GA died Monday, January 9, 2017 at Hawthorn Senior Living in Cuthbert, GA. Funeral services will be held Thursday January 12, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Wallace Willis will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Born in Covington, KY on December 30, 1931 to the late William Sanford Jones, Sr. and Charlotte Leigh Jones. She was part of an Army / Airforce family and attended many schools and lived in many places which contributed to her variety of skills, especially her wonderful cooking.

Mrs. Bridges was married to the late James Alvin Bridges, Sr. for 56 years. She retired from the Terrell County Public School System where she worked many years as a teacher’s aide. Well after her retirement, she would always have adults and children alike approach her in public with fond memory of her loving teaching style. She was a member of the Sasser Baptist church. She was preceded in death by her brother, William 'Billy" Jones, Jr.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandy Alderman and her husband, Gary of Maggie Valley, NC and Susan Apperson and her husband, Ray of Georgetown, GA, two sons, Jimmy Bridges, Jr. and his wife, Cindy of Lee County, GA and Jeff Bridges of Atlanta, GA, seven grandchildren, Michelle Kenerly and her husband, Tony of Fleming Island, FL, John Alderman and his wife, Tara of Kissimmee, FL, Larry Willis of Bridgeborough, GA, Daniel Willis and his wife, Melissa of Albany, GA, Ariel Steedley and her husband, T.J. of Leesburg, GA, Sarah Bridges of Americus, GA, Anna Bridges of Kennesaw, GA, a sister-in-Law, Lynn Jones of Lincoln, NE, and nine great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wednesday form 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
