Walter David "Doc" Edwards, Sr.

Walter David "Doc" Edwards, Sr., of Albany Georgia, passed away on May 7th, 2023 at the age of 84, at his residence.  Funeral service will be Wednesday, May 10, 2022 at Mathews Funeral Home at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow to Leesburg Cemetery. Rev. Ken Chanceller will officiate. 

David was a tree surgeon for 55 years where no job was too big or too small.  He was a Mason and a member of the Moose Lodge.  For those that didn’t know, he had a huge love for dancing.  One night at a square dance in Dickey, GA, he met his wife, Faith.  He was so smitten with her that he would hitchhike to Tifton just to see her.  Faith’s baby brother, Justin, would see David walking down the road and would run into his house and tell their mother, “here comes that boy”.  After courtship, they got married with only five dollars to their name and paid two dollars to get married.  Her love and encouragement were his power.  Their love was unconditional, spending 61½ years together in marriage.  After retirement, David spent his days fishing and spoiling their grandchildren.  He always had a joke to tell, and his stories were colorful! 

Doc was preceded in death by his parents, John Hilburn "Bunk" and Linnie Salome "Lonnie" Hodges Edwards, and siblings, Jim Coyt "Bubba" Edwards, Robert Lee "Bud" Edwards, Annie Lee Edwards Mainor, Icyvene Edwards Addison, Mary Frances Edwards Addison, Millie Edwards Ammons, Amelia Salome Edwards Sanders, and Alice Elizabeth Edwards Lane.

Survivors include his wife, Faith Edwards, sons, David Edwards, Jr. (Lisa), Ronnie Edwards (Shannon), Thomas Edwards (Cami), all of Albany, GA, James Edwards (Kelly), Boiling Springs, SC, daughters, Evelyn Taylor (Jackie), Arlington, GA, Amelia Goddard (Rockland), Warwick, GA, Sharon Forness, Atlanta, GA, thirty-four grandchildren, seventy-nine great grandchildren, and one sister, Monteen Jones (Clarence), Cuthbert, GA.

The Family will receive friends Tuesday, May 9, 2023, from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
