Virginia Ann "Dit" Roberts

 

Virginia Ann “Dit” Roberts, 92, of Albany, GA, died April 5, 2018 at her residence.  Funeral services will be held Monday at 3:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.  Rev. Scott Stanfill will officiate.  Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Roberts was born November 6, 1925 in Hawkinsville, GA to the late David Franklin Jones and Alma Ward Jones  She graduated from Hawkinsville High School and attended Georgia State College for Women and the University of Georgia, and later graduated from Georgia Southwestern College. She married Edgar Lee Roberts II and moved to Albany, GA in 1948.  Early in her career she was employed with the Dougherty County Welfare Department  before she and Ed started a family. In later years Mrs. Roberts worked with the Girl Scouts of America in Albany, and then she owned and operated an antique and home decor shop named Something Special.  Throughout her life she enjoyed gardening, bridge, shopping and antiquing.

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Lee Roberts II, her brother David Franklin Jones, Jr, a sister, Margaret Jones Speight and a step-grandson, Mark Sells.  Survivors include her children, Dinah Hart (Ken) of Tallahassee, FL, Jane McCrary (Ken), Katy Sinquefield (Glenn) and Edgar Lee Roberts III (Karen) all of Albany, GA, her grandchildren, Skyler Minter of Atlanta, GA, Lindsay Waldrop of Seattle, WA, Erin Todd of Athens, GA, Chad McCrary of Atlanta, GA, Allison Starr of Albany, GA, Taylor Sinquefield of Albany, GA, Karlee Roberts of Birmingham, AL, Will Roberts of Albany, GA and a step-grandson, Ryan Hart of Jacksonville, FL and seven great-grandchildren, Molly Starr, Mabry Starr, Reed Sinquefield, Laken Minter, Bennett Todd, Spencer Hart and Nathan Hart.

 

The family is at the residence of Katy and Glenn Sinquefield, 2821 Burlington Dr., Albany, GA. They will receive friends at their residence from 3:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday and visitation will take place one hour before the funeral at Mathews Funeral Home.

 

The family would like to thank friends and neighbors for their support.  A special thank you to sitters Noelle, Valerie, and Bell, and also Kayla and the staff of Phoebe Hospice.
