Vera Carter King of Albany, GA died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at Lee County Health and Rehab. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home, Albany, GA. Rev. Jeff Cook will officiate. Interment will follow at 3:00 p.m. (EST) at Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery, Pike Co., AL, (approx. three to five miles West of Troy, AL, off of Hwy 29).
Vera was born in Pike County, AL on November 26, 1920; it was there she met and married her husband. They moved frequently while he was in the Armed Services and during his employment with Sears-Roebuck. After his retirement, they settled in Albany, GA in 1966 and together opened and operated a Maryland Fried Chicken restaurant. In her spare time, she enjoyed needlework, crossword puzzles and was an avid bridge player. Her life was always full of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her family was her greatest joy. Mrs. King was of the Methodist faith and was preceded in death by a son David Mervin King and her husband Charles Mervin King.
Survivors include a son, Richard Carter King and his wife Beverly, Albany, GA, a daughter, Angela King Brock and her husband Maynard, Worth Co., GA, six grandchildren, Scott Charles Renfroe and his wife Kasey, Jason Lee Renfroe and his wife Jackie, Richard Luther King and his wife Cynthia, Kimberly Renfroe Alford, Joshua Carter King and his wife Tiffany, Courtney Garrison King, ten great grandchildren, Jacob William Alford, Laurel Ansley Renfroe, Jenna Kayley Alford, Delaney Lee Renfroe, Rylie Carter Renfroe, Kaylin Sarah Renfroe, Evan James Renfroe, Caiden Carter King, Kason Gage King and Jaxon Joshua King.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 1, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
