Tommy H Bell, (MSgt., USMC, Ret.), 79, of Lee County, GA, died December 23, 2017 at his residence in Albany GA. A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 2:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home in Albany, GA. Chaplin John Williams will officiate. The family will have a private committal service with full military honors on Friday at 12:00 noon at Andersonville National Cemetery.
Mr. Bell, a native of Henniger, AL, born to the late Matt Raymond and Ethel Mae Bell, he was raised in Clinton, TN where he graduated from Clinton High School. He loved to participate in football and basketball. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corps in 1958, and later served in the Vietnam War He completed a twenty year career and retired from US Marine Corps Logistic Base, Albany, GA. Bell then returned to serve his country in a civilian capacity as a Logistics Technician with the USMC at the Logistics Base in Albany, GA for the next 30 years, retiring in 2008. Mr. Bell devoted his life to his family. While he loved watching sports, especially the Atlanta Braves, he spent most of his time caring for his family and their home. He moved to Blue Ridge, GA in 2008 and returned to Albany, GA a year ago.
Mr. Bell is survived by his wife, Sarah J Redfern Bell of Albany, GA; two daughters, Tanya Bell Holcomb and her husband, Rob of Stratford, WI and Garland Bell-Quinton and her husband, Lance of Denver, CO; a sister, Lora Carol Bell Patterson and her husband Burl of Clinton, TN; a brother, Matt Raymond Bell, Jr of Paducah, KY; two grandchildren, Tyler Holcomb, Lauren Holcomb; and four step-grandchildren, Tyler Jordan Quinton, Hannah Riley Quinton, Kelsey Mallath Holcomb and Robert Harmon Holcomb, III.
The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral at Mathews Funeral Home.
