Thomas âTommyâ Newell York, 71, of Albany, GA passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Willson Hospice House. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Billy D. Hanna will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery, Sylvester, GA.
A native of Worth Co. in the Gordy Community, Mr. York was born to the late William N. York and Nina R. York on December 25, 1945. He graduated high school from Riverside Military Academy in Gainesville, GA. He attended Norman Junior College, Abraham Baldwin College and the University of Georgia. He served in the Army Reserves. He was a farmer, employed with the Georgia State Patrol, Dougherty County Police, Quitman Chief of Police, and retired as an Investigator with Dougherty County District Attorneyâs Office. He was a Realtor with John Anderson, Anderson and Associates Realty, Albany, GA. Mr. York was a member of Worth Lodge 194, Albany Scottish Rites, Albany Hasan Shriners, and The Peace Officers Association of Georgia. He was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, Albany, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents William N. York and Nina York, and is survived by his wife of twenty-eight years, Carol Roberts York, step-son, Jason C. Shiver (Tabatha) of Hoschton, GA, three children by a previous marriage, sons, Thomas N. York, Jr. (Greta) of Elkhorn, NE, William N. York of Fairfax, VA, daughter, Angela Jordan (Milton) of Albany, GA, five grandchildren, Lauren Shiver, Joseph York, Sarah York, Laura York, and Harrison Jordan. Tommy loved his fur babies, TC and Annie.
