Thad Hugh Knight, Sr., 81, of Lee County, GA, died November 5, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 4:00 PM at Thundering Springs Baptist Church. Rev. Jerry Deans and Rev. Chuck Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Thundering Springs Baptist Church Cemetery with Masonic Rites and the Lee County Sheriff's Department will conduct honors.
Mr. Knight was a native and lifelong resident of Lee County, GA. He was employed with Albany Water, Gas and Light for thirty one years. He was currently a Major with the Lee County Sheriff's office and served with the Sheriff's office for thirty six years with three different administrations. Mr. Knight was a member of Thundering Springs Baptist Church, the Men's Sunday School Class and Dougherty Lodge # 591 F&M. He was preceded in death by his son, Bo Knight, a daughter, Kitty Shearer and his wife, Bessie Smith Knight.
Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Fran and George Walls of Lee County, GA, Jan and Roger Zimmerman of Richland, GA and Betty Lou and Richard Bachman of Lee County, GA, two brothers, Tom Knight and his wife, Becky and Will Otis Knight and a special niece, Nadine Askew all of Lee County, GA, a brother-in-law and his wife, Danny and Charlie Mae Smith and three sisters-in-law, Gwen Knight, Paula Smith and Peggy Joyce Mercer and her husband, Mack all of Albany, GA, ten grandchildren, Brandie Hurst (Dee), George Walls, Jr. (LeAnna), Bo McCrary (Julie), Jimmy McCrary, Chris McCrary (Sara), Randy Bachman, Thad Bachman (Stephanie), Pamela Bachman, Timothy Knight, Tyler Knight and nineteen great-grandchildren, Haley Tomlinson, Heather Tomlinson, Hollie Tomlinson, Allie Waldron, Kyra Waldron, Jacob Waldron, Cierra McCrary, Ben McCrary, Trinity McCrary, Brian McCrary, Hannah McCrary, Chasity McCrary, Chris McCrary, Hunter McCrary, Kayla Bachman, Jennifer Bachman and Delilah Bachman, Seth Walls and Tate Walls all of Lee County, GA
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM Monday at Thundering Springs Baptist Church.
The family will be at the residence of Nadine Askew, 483 White Pond Road, Leesburg, GA, 31763.
