Susan Mizell Hatfield, 60, of Dawson, GA passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016 at Willson Hospice House. A memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 4 at 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 307 Flint Avenue Albany, GA 31701. The family will receive friends before the service at 10:00 a.m.
Born in Jacksonville, FL, Mrs. Hatfield lived in Valdosta, GA before moving to Albany in 1980. She was a first grade teacher for 36 years in the Dougherty and Lee County school systems, and was the 1999 Teacher of the Year at Kinchafoonee Primary School. Mrs. Hatfield was retired, and a member of First United Methodist Church and the Communion Sunday School class.
She is survived by her husband, Tracy Hatfield; her daughters, Brooke Hatfield and Mandi Hatfield Hutter and her husband Ben; her parents, Mike and Betty Mizell; her sisters, Kristi White and her husband Kenny, and Kim Blank and her husband Joe.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to GraceWay Recovery, 411 W Tift Ave, Albany, GA 31701, or Kinchafoonee Primary School's first grade, 295 Leslie Hwy, Leesburg, GA 31763. Since Mrs. Hatfield loved reading to children, that's another fitting way to honor her memory.
