Steven Karst, Sr., 77, of Lee County, passed away Friday, April 19, 2019 at his residence.
Steve was born August 18, 1941 in Atlanta, GA. He moved to Albany, GA and graduated from Albany High School. He married the love of his life “Little Bit” in 1961 and joined the United States Navy serving four years as an Air Traffic Controller. They later moved back to Albany, GA, where he worked with the Dougherty County School System for many years along with working for Dougherty County EMS where he retired with approximately 30 years. If that wasn’t enough he also started his own business Alarms, Etc and shared Star K Equestrian Center with Norma. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Leesburg, GA.
Steve was preceded in death by his mother Virginia Karst and his father Edward Karst. Survivors include his wife Norma Karst of Lee County, a daughter Crickette Young (Jeff) of Leesburg, GA, a son Steven Karst, Jr. (Jennifer) of Leesburg, GA, four grandchildren Kyle Young (Alison), Matthew Young, Mercedes Karst, Trista Karst, three great grandchildren Peyton Young, Kaiden Young and Lexi Young. There’s also his extended family, Gene, Lisa, Garrett and Holley Carter along with all of the Star K kids that he had food fights with, transported to horse shows and overall helped raise throughout the years.
Steve was known for his cowboy hat, jeans and boots; therefore, the family invites you to a Celebration of Life at Star K Equestrian Center, 210 Long Dirt Rd. in Leesburg, on Saturday, April 27, from 3:00 – 5:00 PM. This will be an outside event and casual attire, so come as you are and share some of your memories as we celebrate Steve’s life.
