Stephen Douglas Burton

Stephen D. Burton, affectionately known as Oompa, 72, of Albany, GA, died November 20, 2017 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday at the residence of his son, Stump Burton, 125 Flat Ridge Court, Leesburg, GA 31763. A native of Chicago, IL, Mr. Burton grew up in Tinley Park, IL and graduated from Bremen High School. After High School, he joined the United States Navy and served during Vietnam. Mr. Burton was employed with Sony Corporation in Dothan, Alabama and then moved to Albany, GA in 1995 were he retired from Industrial Manufacturing. He enjoyed fishing, boating, arm wrestling tournaments and Bar B Que Cook offs. Survivors include his wife of fifty years, Cora M. Burton of Albany, GA, three children, Kelli (Ricky) Hunt of Albany, GA, Stump Burton and Stevie (Brittney) Burton all of Lee County, GA, five grandchildren, Chase Gilliam, Bryce Burton, Brayden Burton, Brantley Burton and Haise Burton, a host father to exchange student Flavio Mello, Recife Brazil, and special friends Adrienne Phillips and Harley Bridwell.
