Stanley Dennon "Stan" Tomlin

Stanley Dennon “Stan” Tomlin, 76, of Dawson, GA, passed on to his eternal reward Saturday July 13, 2024 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 17, 2024 at 2:00 pm from Mathews Funeral Home with Rev. Morris Monkus officiating. Interment will follow in Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery in Shellman, GA.

Stan was born in rural Dale County close to Ozark, AL on October 19, 1947 to the late James Elton and Alice Thelma Carr Tomlin. He got the nickname “Butter” as a child from his brother. Stan graduated from Carroll High School in 1967, where he lettered in football and was a fine all-purpose lineman.

Stan moved to Albany, GA in the 1970’s. He met the love of his life, Dian Hufstetler, and they got married in January 1978. From there they shared almost 45 years together and are now reunited in Heaven. Stan worked for Proctor and Gamble from 1974 until 2000. He made many friends and memories during his career there. It was there that Stan met his “brother from another mother", George Skinner, a true best buddy if ever there was one. Following over 25 years of service with P&G he spent almost another decade working in electrical/maintenance for Lee County Schools.

Stan enjoyed many hobbies and passions in life. He loved the muscle cars of his younger years along with his brother, cousins and friends. Nothing filled his cup more than traveling and camping with Dian, from the beach to the mountains and all points in between. He was an avid lifelong outdoorsman who loved hooking the boat and RV up and enjoying the woods, water, and fellowship around the fire. He also loved the peace and quiet of the country and his home. He was the master of ingenuity and could make just about anything into something that worked for him. He turned spare metal into rock solid grills, created systems to make tools even better, and really loved the time spent with friends and family working on whatever project they had going. One of the most memorable and enjoyable of his projects was repurposing an old school bus into a camper to use at the deer camp. He and his Dad, family and friends enjoyed the time spent there together so much that the hunting was often just an aside.

In addition to his parents, Stan was preceded in death by his wife, Dian Tomlin, and his brother, Elton Tomlin.

Survivors include mother-in-law Juanita Hufstetler of Albany, GA, sisters-in-law Linda Tomlin of Ozark, AL, Yvonne (Darrell) Griner of Moultrie, GA, Gail (Roger) Lloyd of Flowery Branch, GA, brother-in-law Leon Hufstetler of Albany, GA. Stan is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friends. A special thanks to George and Gail for everything.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm Wednesday before the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
