Sophie Thurman Tyler

Sophie Tyler died peacefully on April 21, 2018, in Leesburg, Georgia, after 100 good years on this earth, while the heavenly choir clapped their hands and sang a resounding chorus of Amen, Amen, Amen!

Sophie was born in Americus, Georgia, the daughter of “Sam” and Bertha Thurman, on November 7, 1917.  She graduated from Americus High School as valedictorian of her class. Sophie attended business school and was office manager for her Uncle’s plumbing business until she met and married Wynton (Bucky) Tyler on May 2, 1942. She waited, as many women did, for her husband to return home from WWII.   He returned to meet his three year old son Jimmy for the first time in 1946.  They then moved to Tampa, Florida and made that their home, and what a wonderful home she and Bucky gave their family of five. In their retired years, Sophie and Bucky enjoyed travelling until his death in 1998.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Bucky, her son Jim, her brother Howdy Thurman and her sister Lynn Meredith. Sophie is survived by her daughter Susan Tyler and son-in-law Larry Remble, her son Dr. Charles Tyler and daughter-in-law Anne and her daughter-in-law Barbara Tyler.  She was blessed with seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, she enjoyed them all and loved them all.  Her secret to a long life was a glass of wine, a scoop of ice cream and turning her worries over to God; not necessarily in that order.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Christ the King Chapel, 821 S. Dale Mabry Hwy., Tampa, Florida   Monday, April 30, 2018 at 10:00 am, with graveside services following at Hillsboro Memorial Gardens, at 2323 W. Brandon Blvd. Brandon, Florida.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
