Shirley Ann Brooks

Shirley Ann Brooks, 73 of Carrollton, GA, formerly of Albany, GA died Saturday April 5, 2014 at the Carrollton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday April 9, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Ralph Estes will officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery.

A native of Moultrie, GA, born to the late Robert and Athalone Hortman, Mrs. Brooks grew up in Albany, GA and graduated from Albany High School in 1958. She was a member of Mount Gilead Baptist in Fort Gaines, GA.

Mrs. Brooks was the co-founder, owner and operator of Windsor Apartments and was a member of the National Association of Women in Construction and The Albany Evening Lions Club. She was preceded in death by her husband William F. Brooks.

Survivors include two sons, Frederick P. (Rick) Baines and wife, Pam of Carrollton, GA and Douglas Scot Baines and wife, Dina of Leesburg, GA, a step son William F. Brooks, Jr. and wife, Sherry of Waynesville, NC, three granddaughters, Brittany Cobb and her husband, Joe of Jacksonville, AL, Elizabeth Baines of Carrollton, GA and Lauren Hubbard and her husband, James of Waynesville, NC and a great-grandchild, Wesley Yarbrough.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:00 PM until 8:30 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
