Shelton Lamar Merritt, 54, of Albany, GA, died Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Willson Hospice House. A memorial celebration of life service will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Bethesda Community Church. Bishop Samuel L. Sneed will preside.
Shelton was born in Irwin County, GA, graduated from Dougherty High School in 1982 and attended Albany Technical College. He was a fireman with the Tift County Fire Department in Tifton, GA and a Hazmat Specialist with Chemtall, Inc. in Riceboro, GA. Shelton was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Milton W. Merritt, Sr.
Survivors include his children Mario R. Merritt, Adel, GA, Raquell S. Richardson, Albany, GA, Kaylen A. Merritt, Statesboro, GA, his mother, Alice J. Merritt, his siblings, Karl W. Merritt (Denise), Fayetteville, NC, Dexter P. Merritt (Michelle), Albany, GA, James L. Merritt (Deborah), Long Beach, CA, Karla F. Merritt Gilmore (Derrick), Frankfort, KY, Milton W. Merritt, Jr. and Lotoya DeShazer, Atlanta, GA, Darrin Brooks, Marcus Eason and Cynthia Eason, all of Tifton, GA, his God siblings, Sharon Pittman (Don), Willie P. Hicks (Calvin), and Rev. Patrick Holloway, all of Dawson, GA, Sherry Jones, Angela Davis (Marquis), Bishop Victor Powell, and Rev. Terry Poole (Velvet) all of Albany, GA, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and friends.
