Samuel D. Spivey,(CSM, US Army, Ret.), 93 of Alpharetta, GA formerly of Albany, GA, died July 25, 2018 at Alto Senior Living Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Sherwood Baptist Church. Rev. Tom Pollock and Mr. Ross Powell will officiate. Interment will follow in Floral Memory Gardens Cemetery will Military Honors.
Mr. Spivey was a native of Canoe, AL and was born to the late Thomas and Mamie Spivey. His parents died when he was a young child and he was raised by extended family. At the age of 15, Mr. Spivey joined the United States Army and served in World War II. He served in the 1st Infantry Division and participated in the invasion of North Africa, Sicily and Normandy where he landed on Omaha Beach. Mr. Spivey served his country for twenty four years before retiring and was employed with the Marine Corps Logistic Base in Albany, GA. He was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church and the Berean Sunday School Class. Mr. Spivey was preceded in death by his wife, Euvida Castleberry Spivey.
Survivors include his children, Jim (Phyllis) Spivey and Debbie (Steve) Lunsford all of Albany, GA and Cathy (Jeff) Barrett of Dunwoody, GA, his grandchildren, Andrew Lunsford of Atlanta, GA, Erin Lunsford of Vancouver, WA, Ben Barrett of Dahlonega, GA, Meredith Barrett of Mountainair, NM, Stephanie (John) Davidson of Albany, GA and a great-grandchild, Isabella Davidson.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday at the Sherwood Baptist Atrium.
