Samuel Phillip Smith, 66, of Albany, GA, died December 8, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 12, at 2:00 PM at Gillionville Baptist Church. Rev. Chad Ellis and Rev. Roy Cook will officiate. Interment will follow in Leesburg Cemetery.
A native of Greensboro, GA, born on December 4, 1951, Phil grew up in Albany and graduated from Albany High School in 1970. He graduated from Berry College in 1974 with a B.S. in Industrial Technology. He was employed with Albany Air Conditioning and Heating Company for thirty years. Phil was an active member of Gillionville Baptist Church serving as a Deacon and was part of the "Because of HIM" Sunday School Class. He also served as a volunteer with Walk to Emmaus and the Georgia Baptist Mobile Dental ministry. He was also former member of the Homebuilders Association of Albany and SW Georgia.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Smith of Albany, GA, two daughters, Amy (James) Lovelace and Beth Smith of Leesburg, GA. his mother, Eunice Smith of Albany, GA and his brother David (Marianne) Smith of Albany, GA. and four grandchildren, Sam Lovelace, Landon Lovelace, Aaron Erne and Emily Erne. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Julius Smith.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Monday, December 11 at Mathews Funeral Home.
