Samuel Benjamin “Sammy” Futch, Jr., 87, of Albany, GA, passed away Friday March 15, 2024 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, March 18, 2024 at 2:00 pm at Crown Hill Cemetery. Rev. Jim Morrow will officiate.
Mr. Futch, known to everyone as Sammy, was born in Valdosta, GA to Samuel B. Futch, Sr. and Vada Hancock Futch. He moved to Albany GA with his family in 1941 and lived there the rest of his life.
He was a 1955 graduate of Albany High School and served in The United States Army for two years. He was a graduate of the University of Georgia and The University of Virginia School of Consumer Banking. He worked in this field for the next forty years. Sammy was an active member of The First Methodist Church of Albany and The Disciple Sunday School Class. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, June F. Bierman and Christine F. Stewart and his brother, Jack Futch.
He is survived by his High School sweetheart and wife of sixty eight years, Billie Carolyn Willis Futch of Albany, GA, three daughters, Judith Fox (Bill) of Watkinsville, GA, Jennifer Sikes (Jeff) of Valdosta, GA and Carolyn McDonald (Danny) of Albany, GA, a son, Samuel B. “Chip” Futch III of Lineville, Al, six grandchildren, Sarah Bailey (Brad), Susannah Stephenson (Calvin), Carson McDonald, Laura Leigh Fox (Jackson Kendrick), Jonathan William Fox III and Morgan McDonald and four great grandchildren Corbin Bailey, Greyson Bailey, Sophia Stephenson and Emory Stephenson.
The family will receive friends following the graveside at Crown Hill Cemetery.
