Roosevelt Brown, Sr., 79, of Leesburg, GA died Friday, December 1, 2017 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, GA. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Leesburg, GA with military honors. Pastor Sterling Calhoun will officiate. Interment will be in Andersonville National Cemetery, Andersonville, GA at a later date. Mr. Brown was born in Smithville, GA. to the late Lovette Brown and Marie Reddick Brown. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1962 to 1984 He retired from the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, NC, as Master Gunnery Sergeant (E-9 rank) and then was employed as a civil employee at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, GA from 1986 to 2001, serving in the repair and supply division. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0400. Mr. Brown was an avid entrepreneur and mentor, and served as Deacon and Sunday School Bible Teacher at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He was a teacher, friend, brother, and a father to all. Survivors include his wife of forty-three years, Rosario R. Brown, Leesburg, GA, his three children Roosevelt Brown, Jr., of Atlanta, GA, Augustus Ceasar Brown and his wife Kim Felton Brown of Atlanta, GA, Emily Ann Brown and her husband Sah Brown of Washington, D.C., four grandchildren, Taylor Ann Brown, Chandler Brown, Tristen Brown, and Felton Brown and four living siblings, Otis Brown, Kate Brown Green, Fate Brown, Clara Pratt, and Mary Flynn, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, December 8, 2017 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Mathews Funeral Home, 3206 Gillionville Road, Albany, GA, and Saturday one hour prior to the funeral services at Shady Grove Missionary Baptist Church located at 714 Georgia Highway 195, Leesburg, GA, 31763.
