Ronald Mack Scarborough died Dec. 21 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, Albany, surrounded by his entire family. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on January 3, 2020 at Andersonville National Cemetery.
He was born June 30, 1947, in Hawkinsville, GA, to the late Oscar and Mary Alice Scarborough. The family moved from middle Georgia when Ron was a teen-ager and he was graduated from Robinson High School, Tampa, FL, in 1965. After service in the United States Navy and two tours of duty in Viet Nam, during which he was award several commendations, including a Purple Heart, he received a bachelor degree in English Literature from the University of Florida, Gainesville. His military service resulted in his disability. He is also predeceased by a sister, Vanessa Headrick of Tampa.
Ron was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Albany and a faithful volunteer at A Place 4 Hope. After he retired from a successful career in management, he worked at Albany Auto Auction, where he made many friends. He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 30. An avid reader, he was well known at the Albany Public Library until his heath began declining.
He is survived by his soulmate and wife, Loyless Harris; a daughter, Elanor Scarborough (Gordon Hole), Sarasota, FL; a son, U.S. Army Capt. Aaron Scarborough (Abigail), Fort Mitchell, AL; a step-daughter, Miloy Summerell, Albany; two step-sons, Ward Summerell (Dena), Albany, and Mitch Summerell (Rebekah), Senoia; grandchildren and step-grandchidren, Jonas and Micah Hole, Sarasota, FL; Orion Scarborough, Fort Mitchell, AL, Bradley Summerell (Haley) and Hope Summerell, Albany; Keaton, Landon, Trenton and KK Summerell, Senoia, and Ariel Schwartz, Augusta and Leesburg, and two step-great-grandchildren, Lillian and Benjamin Summerell, Albany. He is also survived by a chosen grandson, A.J. Doss of Leesburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to the Missions Committee or Christian Education Committee at First Presbyterian Church of Albany or to A Place 4 Hope at the Salvation Army in Albany.
