Roberta Greer Friesen, 92, moved to Heaven on February 20, 2019. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Albert Arthur Friesen, by daughters Rose Fisher (husband John), of Albany, GA Donna Wigton (husband Doug), of Denver, CO and Martha Friesen of Smyrna, GA, two granddaughters, Amanda Skelley (husband Richard) of Albany, GA, Melissa Cloud of Camilla, GA and by great grandchildren Laura Cloud, Layton Cloud and Will Skelley. She was preceded to Heaven by son Dan Friesen and his wife Bonnie, and her seven siblings and their spouses.
Bert, as she was known to family and friends, was born September 6, 1926 in Spartanburg Co. SC and grew up in that area. She married Al who she met while he was stationed at Donaldson AFB, on August 6, 1948. They lived briefly in TX and CA before moving to Charlotte, NC. They lived there many years before moving to GA to be closer to family. Bert was a homemaker, as well as a seamstress for her family and many others. While in Charlotte, she was active in the United Methodist Women of First United Methodist church. Also, the women’s ministry of the Salvation Army known as The Home League. She was a good friend to many people of all socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
A memorial service to celebrate her life is planned in Greer, SC on Saturday, March 30 at 10:00 at the Burnsview Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the women’s ministry of the Salvation Army.
