Robert Lee Wilson (US Army, RET), 82, of Palm Bay, FL, died September 23, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Myers will officiate. Committal services will follow at 2:00 PM at Andersonville National Cemetery with Military Honors.
Mr. Wilson was born in Warrington, NC and enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Korea, two tours in Vietnam and retired in 1971. After his retirement, he owned and operated the Better Brake Shop in Columbia, SC and he was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Stover, MO.
Mr. Wilson lived in Columbia, SC, Swansea, SC, and Stover, MO before moving to Palm Bay, FL six years ago. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Sinclair Lodge A.F.M. #154 where he was Mason of the Year in 1988. Mr. Wilson was also a former member of Jamil Shrine Temple in Columbia, SC.
Survivors include his wife, Golda R. Wilson of Palm Bay, FL, his children, Robert Steve Wilson and his wife, Amy of Swansea, SC, Kenneth Lee Wilson and his wife, Joann of Aiken, SC, John Wesley Wilson and his wife, Candy of Stanley, NC, Timothy Joe Wilson of Columbia, SC, Janet King of Palm Bay, FL, Gloria Smith of Ellerbe, NC and Robin Christiano and her husband, Perry of Swansea, SC, a brother, Frank Wilson and his wife, Penny of Clermont, FL, a sister, Daphne Wright of Valdosta, GA, his grandchildren, Michael, Alex, Jennifer, Lee, Ashley, Wesley, Heather, Brandi, Stephanie and very near and dear to his heart, Amanda and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Lee Wilson, Sr. and Effie Choplin Wilson Wright, his step-father, Joe Wright , two brothers, Forest Wilson and Paul Wilson.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
