Robert S. Griffith (MSgt,USMC Ret.)

Robert S. Griffith (MSgt, USMC Ret.), 88, of Leesburg, GA, died March 22, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Wesley Kaylor will officiate. Interment will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.

A native of Fullerton, PA, born to the late Lemmuel and Myrtle Griffith, he served in the United States Marine Corps for twenty four years, during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He was stationed in Albany, GA in 1960 and had resided in Lee County, GA since 1963.

Mr. Griffith was a member of the Sasser United Methodist Church and was an honorary member of the Sowega Saddle Club where he served as President for two years. He was also employed with the Carlton Company and Jay Evans Testing Laboratory and was affectionately known as the Beagle Man.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jean Griffith of Leesburg, GA, a son, Carey R. Griffith of Destin, FL, a daughter, Joan E. Heidrich (Tim) of Villa Rica, GA, a step-son, David Fiveash (Chris) of Columbus, GA, a step-daughter, Courtney Lester (David Morell) of Leesburg, GA, a sister, Jean Andrews of Allentown, PA, his grandchildren, Carey L. Griffith and Ryan Griffith of Ft. Walton Beach, FL, Wesley Heidrich, Justin Heidrich, Blake Heidrich, Amanda Heidrich and Jessica Heidrich all of Villa Rica, GA, Danielle N. Lester of Leesburg, GA, B. Jessica Fiveash and Autumn K. Fiveash both of Columbus, GA and Melanie Griffith of Niceville, FL. He was preceded in death by a son, Craig R. Griffith and a brother, Ret. Col. William W. Griffith.
