Robert (Bob) W. Pharis

Robert W. (Bob) Pharis, 79, of Albany, GA, died Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at Palmyra Nursing Home. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11:00 AM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Chip Gresham will officiate. Entombment will follow at Crown Hill Mausoleum.

Born in Columbus, GA., Mr. Pharis was a graduate of Young Harris Junior College and LaGrange College where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He taught school in Cumming, GA before moving to Albany in 1959. He operated the snack bar at the main post office and at the Marine Corps Logistic Base in Albany.

Mr. Pharis was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, the Martin Gunn Sunday School Class and played the organ and piano at the church. He was very active in the Kairos Prison Ministry and was a honorary member of the Dougherty County Kiwanis Club.

He was preceded in death in 1997 by his wife, Mae Quarles Reed Pharis, survivors include a brother, Hugh B. Pharis of Conyers, GA, a sister-in-law Dorothy Pharis of Cheyenne, WY and a step-granddaughter, Mary Elizabeth Williams of Doddridge, AR.

Friends will be received one hour prior to the funeral on Friday at Mathews Funeral Home.
