Marc was born on October 23, 1944, at Moody Air Force Base in Valdosta, GA. Raised by his loving parents Bob and Dorothy Matre, the family moved to Albany, GA, soon after he was born. They lived in a home overlooking Radium Country Club, where he learned to play and love the game of golf. He attended Albany High School, and graduated from Georgia Military Academy in Atlanta, now known as Woodward Academy. Marc developed into a skilled golfer, and he went on to play in college at both Florida Southern University, where he met his future wife Judy Camblin, and Jacksonville University.
After Marc and Judy married and started a family, they moved to Judy’s hometown of Jacksonville, FL, where he worked at Sealand Corp. at the Port of Jacksonville. The family moved to Marc’s hometown of Albany in 1975, where the family thrived. Marc took pride in his job at Lilliston Corporation as Logistics Manager until the company relocated to Selma, AL, in 1986. Marc remained in Albany, working for notable trucking companies for the rest of his career, including Silver Eagle and Southern Ag. In 2006, Marc semi-retired and joined his son Mike as the CFO for Matre Forestry Consulting. He also took pride in Rob's Atlanta based art career, proudly displaying his paintings and photographs throughout his home and office.
A people person, Marc developed lasting friendships throughout all stages of his life. His main passion was golf, and practically raised Rob and Mike on the golf course at Doublegate and Radium. He was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed taking his boys on fishing trips throughout their childhood. He had a lifelong love of music, enjoying a wide variety of genres and artists, especially Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones. Marc was also passionate about Georgia football, and his family enjoyed countless trips to see Them Dawgs play in Athens and Jacksonville, and occasional road games as well. One of his favorite trips was to the 1981 Sugar Bowl, where Georgia defeated Notre Dame to win The 1980 National Championship.
Marc was active in many organizations and clubs, including the local chapters of Salvation Army and Kiwanis Club, where he recently served two terms as president. Marc was a long time member of First Methodist Church in Albany, and frequently attended Americus Baptist Temple church with his son Mike and his family.
