Robert Clyde (Bob) Gilbert

Robert (Bob) Clyde Gilbert of Leesburg, GA, died Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, January 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Mr. Lee Gilbert and Rev. Carl Barnhardt will officiate. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Albany, GA.

Born in Winston-Salem, NC, Mr. Gilbert had resided in both the Albany, GA and Lee Co., GA area for the past thirty five years. He was a veteran serving in the Air Force, retired from MCLB as a heavy mobile equipment mechanic and Methodist by faith.

Bob loved his family and was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed camping, deer and turkey hunting and fresh water fishing. He was an outdoor person and president of the Whip-Poor-Will Hunting Club. He also enjoyed restoring cars and car engines. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jessica-Ann Buchanan, his mother, Dorothy Ann Johnson Gilbert and his grandparents, James Wilkerson Gilbert (Ruby), Francis Marion Johnson (Girtha).

Survivors include his wife, Cathy Blocker Gilbert, a daughter, Jennifer Gilbert Baptista (Brad), a granddaughter, Darian N. McDonald and a grandson, Tanner R. Baptista all of Lee Co., GA, his father, Willard T. Gilbert (Alice), Bell, FL, brothers, M. Lee Gilbert (Dorothy), Tallahassee, FL, Keith E. Gilbert (Rich), Silver Springs, MD, sister, C. Jane Gilbert Carney, Jacksonville, FL, three nephews, William (Bill) Gilbert (Caitlin), Tallahassee, FL, Jonathan Carney, Jacksonville, FL, Matthew (Matt) Gilbert, Tallahassee, FL and a niece Rachel Nicholas, Jacksonville, FL.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
