Robert Steven (Bob) Childers

Robert Steven (Bob) Childers, 68, of Lee County, GA, died November 1, 2015 in Augusta, GA. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00 PM at Avalon United Methodist Church. Ross Powell will officiate. Committal services and Military Honors will be held Monday, November 9, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA.

A native of Clayton, GA, Bob graduated from Rabun County High School and received his Associates Degree from Fayetteville Technical Community College. He joined The United States Air Force in 1966 and served for ten years. Bob then joined The United States Army and served for ten years before retiring in 1986 as a Chief Warrant Officer.

Bob moved to Albany, GA from Lake Ridge, VA in 1999 and was employed with Skylla Engineering as an Equipment Specialist. He was well known to the Military and Civil Service Community and was active in the Albany, GA and Lee County area. Bob was a member of Stonebridge Golf Club, River Pointe Golf Club and the Laid back Golfers. He was always eager to promote and support local Charity Golf Tournaments.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley A. Lemon of Albany, GA, three children, Brett S. Childers of Woodstock, GA, Brandon V. Childers and his wife, Lauren of Marietta, GA and Stephanie N. Childers of Albany, GA, three siblings, Fred Allen Childers and his wife, Velma of Clayton, GA, Helen R. Garland of Dalton, GA and Mary Ann Whittington and her husband, Al of Clayton, GA, five grandchildren, Ethan Dupier, Aidan Childers, Brennan Childers, Rylie Childers and Wyatt Childers and a sister-in-law and her husband, Violet and Joseph Matthews of Wichita, KS.

The family will receive friends from one hour prior to the service at Avalon United Methodist Church.

The family requests those desiring to wear golfing attire.
