Richard Lamar Wills, of Dawson, Georgia, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the age of 86, at Magnolia Manor in Americus with his family by his side. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Interment will follow to Parrott City Cemetery. Mr. James Smith will officiate.
Born March 5, 1938, in Parrott, Georgia to the late Thomas Waymod Wills and Martha Yansam Wills. He lived a life dedicated to hard work and service, becoming a successful businessman during his early years in Dawson, Georgia. Mr. Wills made notable contributions to the community in various fields including construction, where he excelled in both residential and commercial, as well as in heating and air conditioning and building supplies.
Known for his strong work ethic, Richard was committed to providing for his family, and his devotion was evident in everything he did. Richard was not only a successful entrepreneur but also a man of deep faith and love for his family. He cherished moments spent with loved ones, engaged in fishing, and traveling when he had the opportunity. His profound appreciation for the simple joys of country life and farming called him back, leading him to sell his businesses and dedicate his later years to farming.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Ruth Paul Wills, as well as his wives, Margie Hunter Wills and Maybelle McPherson Wills. His brothers, Lloyd Wills, Buddy Wills, Raymond Wills, Jackie Wills, and Louis Wills, and sisters, Barbara Jean Wills Preston and Martha Grace Wills Sauls.
Survivors include his son, Robert "Lamar" Wills of Dawson, GA, and his daughter, Sandi Wills Payton (Allen) of Oakwood, GA. His beloved granddaughter, Gabby Payton of Oakwood, GA, his brothers, George Wills (Elaine), Sammie Wills, and Alfred Wills, his sisters, Ruth Wills, Margie Roland (Ron), and Sara Helen Brown (Richard), along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on March 1, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:45 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
