Richard Bruce Owens

Richard Bruce Owens, 87, of Albany, died Friday, May 27, 2022 at his residence.

His funeral service will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2022 at Mathews Funeral Home.  Interment will follow at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.  Rev. Bruce Gordon officiating

Born in Baltimore, MD, Mr. Owens was retired from MCLB as a Supply Technician.  He had lived in Shellman, GA before moving to Albany 8 years ago.  He served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1952 to 1972 retiring as a GySgt. 

He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, worked with the Boy Scouts, enjoyed bowling and fishing and one of the first T-Ball coaches in Lee County Rec Department.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Vera Collen Owens, children, Judith Kim Fasset (Clark) , Havana, FL, Steven Owens (Mallory), Camilla, GA,  grandchildren, Renee Hostetler (Shane), Hilliard, OH, Stephanie Mainor (Steven), Leesburg, Morgan Fleming, Albany, Michael Owens, Albany, Vivian Isler (Keith), Albany, Hannah Smith, Pawleys Island, SC, Jesse Smith, Hawkinsville, Alleigh Grace Cox, Camilla,14 great grandchildren and many close family and friends.

The family will receive friends Tuesday 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
