Richard M. (Dick) Martin, 64, of Albany, GA, died April 21, 2015. Funeral services will be held Friday April 24, 2015 at 2:00 PM at Porterfield Memorial United Methodist Church. Rev. Tyler Plaxico will officiate. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery in Cuthbert with Masonic Rites.
A native of Cuthbert, GA, born to the late Dr. Robert B. and Iona Martin III, Dick graduated from Randolph County High School in 1968. He graduated from the University of Georgia where he was a member of The Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.
Dick moved to Albany, GA in 1974, purchased Hall-ing Refuse Company in 1978 and served as Proprietor until his retirement in 1998. He served as the Easter Seal Telethon Spokesperson and was a member of the Gridiron Secret Society at the University of Georgia. Dick was a member and Past President of the Albany Rotary Club, where he received the Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International Award.
Dick was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Triangle Lodge # 708 F&AM. He was a member of Hasan Shriners and The Royal Order of Jesters, Court # 159 of Albany, GA. Dick was a member and Past President of Doublegate Country Club and was formerly on the Board of Directors of the Heart Fund, active in the United Way and a member of the Inside Bird Watchers Society.
Survivors include his fiancee, Pat Sumner of Albany, GA, a son, Richard M. Martin, Jr. of Albany, GA, a daughter and her husband, Bailey and Jason Koch of Woodstock, GA, a brother, Dr. Robert B. Martin, IV and his wife, Carol Ann of Nacogdoches, TX, a sister and her husband, Marsha and Buddy Reid of Cuthbert, GA and St. George Island, FL, his grandchildren, Watson Koch, Zoey Koch and Evan Martin, a nephew, Rob Martin, V and his wife, Kasey of Los Angeles, CA and three nieces, Kristen Wright and her husband, Sam of Nacogdoches, TX , Tracie Atkinson of Tampa, FL, and Catrena Reid of Milwaukee Wisconsin and a great nephew Jamie Wright of Nacogdoches, TX.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday at Mathews Funeral Home.
