Richard Benard Huiras, 65, of Leesburg, GA passed away Friday, March 1, 2024 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Memorial services will be conducted Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at The Vine, 242 Walnut Street Leesburg, GA. Rev. Jamie Baggett will officiate.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard M. Huiras and Shirley Carol Elsberry Huiras, a brother, Robert (Bobby) Huiras and a sister Joanne H. Rupert.
Richard worked in construction as a teenager and then started at Water, Gas and Light in 1981. He worked his way up to a water distribution superintendent. He retired in 2017 after 36 years.
When his kids were young and into their teenage years, he discovered his love of the kid’s sports, he loved watching Nicole’s softball and he coached Ricky’s football. When his kids grew up and were not participating in sports as much, Richard and Caryl volunteered with the fire department and with their rescue dive team.
He discovered a love for fishing and joined the Albany Bass Club. Six years ago when he had his massive heart attack, he let go of his extracurricular activities to spend the remainder of his time with his wife, kids and grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Caryl S. Huiras, a son, Richard (Ricky) Bernard Huiras, Jr. (Samantha), daughter, Nicole Huiras Bush (Alan), all of Leesburg, GA, sister, Reginia Roberts, Albany, GA, grandchildren, Jeremy Bernard Huiras (Isabella), Alivia Bush, Blayze Huiras, Graceleigh Bush and Lukas Huiras.
