Rev. Jerry K. Deans (1st Sergeant, Ret, USMC) 80, of Lee County, GA, died November 25, 2020 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held Sunday, November 29, 2020 at 2:00 PM at Thundering Springs Cemetery. Rev. Bruce Smith will officiate. The United States Marine Corps Honor Guard will provide Military Honors.
Rev. Deans was born on May 21, 1940 in Selma, NC to William Franklin Deans and Eula Williamson Deans. He graduated from Lucama High School and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1959. He and his new bride, Emily traveled from station to station serving their Country and raising their family. Rev. Deans served in Vietnam and retired in 1979 after twenty years of service.
God call him into the ministry at age 50. Rev. Deans’ first church he ministered was Oak Grove Baptist Church in Hartsfield, GA (1996-2003). He then pastored Faith Baptist Church in Albany, GA for ten years before retiring.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Emily Deans of Lee County, GA, a son David (Susan) Deans of Greenville, NC, his daughters, Pamela Nesbitt of Sylvester, GA and Sharon (John) Dougharty of Martinsville, IN, his grandchildren, Bryan and Tiffany Deans, Brent Deans, Kaycee Nesbitt and Holly Dougharty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy Deans Adams and a brother, Jack Deans.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 4:30 PM until 6:30 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
