A "Celebration of Life" for the late Rena Lee Moore Wilson McRee who passed away on Wednesday, Dec 24th, at her home, will be held at her family church, Albany Community SDA Church on Sunday, Jan 4th at 3:00pm. At Rena's request, please dress casually; this is not a service for mourning, but celebrating.
Rena was born on Dec 1, 1924 in Houston County, AL. She was born to the late Alma Ashley Moore and the late Bennie Lee Knighton Temples Moore and the step-daughter of Anna Barbara Turner Moore. She was also preceded in death by two husbands, Raymond Monroe Wilson, Sr. and Jack C. McRee; a sister, Albertine Moore Thurman Brower; two brothers, Arthur Trammel Temples and Huey Lee Moore, and a daughter Barbara Anna Carboni Kirby Fricks.
Rena is survived by her two daughters: Carol Wilson Corbett and Rhonda Wilson (Ben Harris) all of Albany, and a son Raymond Monroe Wilson, Jr. of Mobile, AL; grandchildren, Karen Kirby Tarleton of Toole, UT and Matthew (Marie) Corbett of Leesburg; foster grand-daughter, Melissa Dryer of Huntsville, AL; step-grandchildren Scott (Jewel) Harris of Myakka City, FL and Candis Harris (Otis) Morrison of Lake Placid, FL; great grandchildren, Kenneth (Alexis) Tarleton of Cold Water, MS, Jennifer Tarleton (David) Sanchez and Michael Corbett all of Leesburg, GA and 10 step-great children; great-great grandchildren Rachel Sanchez, Gabby Sanchez, Loralei Tarleton, Trent Maddock, and 5 step great-great grandchildren; also survived by a sister Emily Moore of Longview, TX and a step-sister Ann Turner Simpson of Homer, GA. She also had several extremely close nieces and nephews: Doris Thurman Etheridge, Will Thurman, Eugene Brower, Julie Cooper and Stanley Brower, Jr.
Throughout Rena's lifetime, she never failed to lend a helping hand and often opened her home to those in need. There are many adults, now, that consider her to be a second mother or maybe even their only mother: Nathan Witt, Joanne Sizemore Standerfer, Jeannie Shiver, Glen Reynolds, Lynn Reynolds, Kenneth Fehr, Teresa Griffin, Justin Griffin, Rebecca Reynolds Daniel, Cory Reynolds, Cassie Reynolds, and Dalton Reynolds.
She was a hard worker and started out early in life working with her father on the farms where he was a sharecropper. As a young woman she waitressed in the Albany Area, as well as Panama City, FL and for a short time in Philadelphia, PA. During the WWII, she worked at the Panama City Ship Yard as a welder and riveter. She also worked at Coats and Clarks, Albany, Lee County Manufacturing, Leesburg and finally retired from MCLB Logistics, Albany from the Procurement/Contracts Division. She loved her "work family" at all the places she worked and those who worked with her at the Marine Base became part of our extended family and considered Rena and her children as part of their extended family: Shirl (Helen) Goff, Betty (John) McDonald, Marie Halstead, Dot (Jack) Tressler and Dot Smithwick.
She loved doing arts and crafts, using her hands to make things especially to give as gifts. She had a green thumb and loved working with her roses and other plants. She loved animals and there were always pets in the family. Her beloved Prince (dog), 15 years, passed away just a few months ago and his ashes were buried with her.
Her family would like to say thanks to the people who helped her during the last few years and especially those who cared for her the last 9 months as her health deteriorated: Brenda Gosa, Tammy McCook, Janis Messer, Gloria Shirley, Demetria Lovett, Ashley Jackson, Heather Sadler, Hope Webb, Catherine Johnson, Angel Stoyle and others of The Willson Hospice House. We also want to thank the Medi-Save Pharmacy and Albany Home Patient especially Vincent Williams.
In lieu of flowers, Rena's request was for those desiring to send flowers to instead, please make donations or memorials to Dawson Senior Center, 741 Forester Drive, Dawson, GA, 39842 or Willson Hospice House, 320 Foundation Lane, Albany, GA, 31707 or Albany Community SDA Church, 381 Fussell Road, Leesburg, GA 31763.
