Rebecca Bernell Dabbs

Rebecca Bernell Dabbs, 93, of Albany, GA, died Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Willson Hospice House. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at 3:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Carrie Meyers will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A private interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

A native of Waycross, Georgia, Mrs. Dabbs resided in Albany for over seventy years. She was a graduate of Waycross High School. She met her "military" man, Sgt. Mott Parks Dabbs and they were married on December 12, 1952. She was a full-time military wife and an amazing volunteer and leader for her son's school and scout activities.

Her zest for life and dry sense of humor were what made Bernell so lovable. Her devotion to her family and her four-legged friends was monumental. She ran her own ceramic shop for over forty years. She was an extremely talented artist and the classes she taught were loved by countless Albanians. Her love of writing poems and stories was also well-known.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rance Smith and Addie Lee Smith, her sister, Clarice Bunn and her husband, Mott Parks Dabbs. Survivors include her son and his wife, Chris and Judy Dabbs of Albany, her sister and her husband, Mary Alyce and Bill Jernigan of Waycross, Georgia, a granddaughter and her husband, Whitney and Brandon Seely of Albany, a grandson, Chandler Dabbs of Albany, two nephews and their wives, Asa and Laurie Jernigan of Jacksonville, Florida and Rance and Susan Bunn of Hendersonville, Tennessee. Also included is her dear friend, Arthur (Herk) Hernandez of Orange Park, Florida.

The family will be at the residence of Chris and Judy Dabbs, 340 Osprey Ridge Court, Albany, GA, 31721.
