Raymond “Hawkeye” Sorrells 73, of Albany, GA died December 26, 2018 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.
His funeral service will be 2 PM Friday, December 28, 2018 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Interment will be Sunday 1 PM at Stephens Memorial Gardens in Toccoa, GA.
Hawkeye was born in Toccoa, GA on March 22nd, 1945 to the late Claude and Mot Sorrells. He attended Georgia Military College then graduated from the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Sigma Nu fraternity. Following graduation he moved to Albany, GA. In Albany he went into business for himself and started Tape Town which later evolved into Custom Sound. This is where the love of music became an integral part of his life. He was a member of Doublegate Country Club and an avid golfer. Hawkeye had a heart of gold, loved life and people. He also loved football and NASCAR. These passions he passed on to his son Burt. He rarely missed a Georgia football game and was always a Bulldog. Most Sunday’s were spent watching either football or racing with Burt and their friends.
Hawkeye is survived by his son, Burt Allen Sorrells, his partner of many years, Robin McMickle Nichols, her son, Chase and his wife Lauren, his sister, Margaret Mills and her children Amy and Grant.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 212 N. Jefferson St. Albany, Ga 31707.
