Rachel E. Whatley

Rachel E. Smith Whatley, 65, of Lee Co., GA, died Monday, May 19, 2014 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. The Homecoming Celebration will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2014 at Lakeside Baptist Church. Rev. Ken Chancellor and Rev. Raymond Smith will officiate. Interment will follow in Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, Preston, GA at 3:00 p.m.

Born in Shellman, GA, Mrs. Whatley had resided in Lee Co., GA for the past forty two years. She was a homemaker and a member of Lakeside Baptist Church where she faithfully served her Lord and Savior and also taught the two and three year olds Sunday School Class. Mrs. Whatley was preceded in death by her father Richard Conyers Smith.

Survivors include her husband, Larry Whatley, a son, Matthew Whatley both of Lee Co., GA, a daughter, Amanda Whatley Rodriguez, Cusseta, GA, her mother, Ethel Kiser Smith, three brothers, Wayne Smith, Don Smith and Phillip Smith and three sisters, Gail Freeman, Karen Taylor and Wanda Laramore all of Lee Co., GA and six grandchildren, Lauren and Nathan Rodriguez of Cusseta, GA, Jennifer, Frankie, Brittany, and Jonathan Rodriguez all of Lee Co., GA.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
