Playol Kayton (P.K.) Shippey, Sr., died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at his residence. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 AM at the Edison United Methodist Church. Rev. Ed Thomas and Rev. Wesley Brown will officiate. Interment will follow in the Morgan Methodist Church Cemetery.
A native of Caddo Mills, TX, Mr. Shippey had lived in Calhoun County, GA since 1946 and had lived in Edison since 1958. He was a US Navy Veteran serving in World War II and was a rural mail carrier for thirty five years. Mr. Shippey was a member of the Edison United Methodist Church and was an active member of Kairos (Prison Ministry) and served Lee State Prison in Leesburg, GA.
Survivors include his wife of sixty five years, Geraldine W. Shippey of Edison, GA, two sons and their wives, Kayton and Beverly Shippey of Edison, GA and Lovick and Glenda Shippey of Albany, GA, a brother and his wife, J. E. and Justine Shippey of Jacksonville, FL, a grandson and his wife, Playol and Adrianne Shippey of Montgomery, AL and two great-grandchildren, Baden Shippey and Meryn Shippey.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home.
