Phillip "Larry" Almgren, Sr., 72, of Albany, GA died June 27, 2016 at his residence. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:00 PM at Mathews Funeral Home. Pastor Steve Hood will officiate. Interment will follow in Liberty Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
A native of Butler, GA, born to the late Alex Walter and Daisy Brooks Almgren, Larry graduated from Butler High School in 1962 and attended Darton College. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and moved to Albany, GA in 1962. Larry was employed with Baker Brothers for over 38 years, Trane for eight years and was employed with Bache Industries before retiring. He was a member of The First Church of The Nazarene where he served as a greeter.
Larry's legacy was working hard to take care of his family, serving and helping others: such as El Sembrador Boys School, teaching Hunter Safety Courses for over 30 years and serving as a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Axe Almgren, Lamar Almgren, Mike Almgren and Susan Almgren Turner and a grandson, William Almgren-Friedman.
Survivors include his wife, Ann S. Almgren of Albany, GA, two daughters, Phillis Almgren (Mitchell Friedman) of Portland, OR, and Lara (Mike) Hallock of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA, a son, Phillip L. Almgren, Jr.(Carrie George) of Thomaston, GA, a brother, Samuel Almgren of Douglasville, GA, his grandchildren, Eva Rose Almgren-Friedman and Carl Almgren-Friedman both of Portland, OR, Claire Hallock and Sam Hallock both of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA and Dalton George of Thomaston, GA and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM before the service at Mathews Funeral Home.
