Orion Hardy Peeples, 89, of Albany, GA died Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Friday February 17, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. Rev. Charlie Brown will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors. Serving as pallbearers will be: Hollis Hood, Britt Peeples, Jason Peeples, Jackson Peeples, Boyce Peeples, Jackie Taylor, Mike Johnson and Tony Hobbs.
A native of Grays, SC, Mr. Peeples had resided in Albany for the past sixty one years. He was a retired Field Superintendent with Layne Atlantic Corporation and after retirement he worked with Green Brothers Well Drilling. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army, a member of Southeastern Well Drillers Association, Campers On Missions, the Golden Key Club, Open Door Sunday School Class and Byne Memorial Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Peeples, Albany, GA, two sons, Coach Junior Peeples (Connie), Cordele, GA, Bobby Peeples (Lisa), Lee Co., GA, a daughter, Mary Hood (Dr. Herb Hood), Albany, GA, a sister, Earlene Rivers, Grays, SC, seven grandchildren, Kim Hobbs (Tony), Hollis Hood (Tina), Heather Johnson (Mike), Britt Peeples, Ross Peeples, Jason Peeples, Jackson Peeples, six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home.
