Opal McKee Littlejohn

Opal McKee Littlejohn, Born in Meridian, Mississippi on June 9, 1919, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday July 13, 2012 at Lee County Heath Care, Leesburg, GA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Mabel McKee and her husband, Paul Littlejohn to whom she was married for seventy three years.

Funeral services honoring Opal will be conducted Monday, July 16, 2012 at 2:00 PM at Gillionville Baptist Church with Reverend Tony Haefs and Reverend Roy Cook Officiating. Interment will be at Crown Hill Cemetery following the service.

The family will greet friends at Gillionville Baptist Church from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM prior to the service or at the home of John and Terrie Haire, 225 Winship Drive, Leesburg, GA.

Mrs. Littlejohn has three children: a daughter, Terrie Littlejohn Haire and husband John of Leesburg, GA, Wayne Littlejohn and wife, Doris of Winter Haven, FL and Phillip Littlejohn and wife Louisa of Sorrento, FL, Opal has seven grandchildren: Master Sergeant Mark Littlejohn and wife Gigi stationed in London, England, Lisa Littlejohn Hartzler and husband Jon of Odessa, FL, Melinda Haire McRee and husband Chuck of Augusta, GA, Michelle Haire Cole and husband Dell of Macon, GA, Matthew Littlejohn and wife Kelley of North Myrtle Beach, SC, Laura Littlejohn of Conway, SC and Michael Smith and wife Brandi of Leesburg, GA. Mrs. Littlejohn has sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She has one sister, Delores McKee East of Greenville, SC and one nephew, Captain Michael East and wife LuAnn also of Greenville, SC.

Mrs. Littlejohn lived a long and full life. She taught Sunday School at Sherwood Baptist where she was a member from 1959 to 1972. After moving to Florida in 1972, she and her husband Paul, helped charter a Non-Denomination Church, Mission By The Sea. Opal was Church Hostess until they moved back to Albany, GA in 1996. They joined Gillionville Baptist Church and served until health conditions no longer allowed.

After raising her children to school years, she went to work with Arnold'sShoe Store, downtown Albany, where she was Assistant Manager. She later was manager of Barfield's Shoes until she left Albany to retire at their beach home on Alligator Point, FL.

Her hobbies were living on the beach at Alligator Point, Florida for twenty seven years enjoying each season of the year, cooking for her family, being involved with her church family, reading and playing cards.


Pallbearers will be Dell Cole, Mike East, Chuck McRee, John McRee, Frankie Mathis, Lonnie Mathis. Honoree pallbearers are Master Sergeant Mark Littlejohn and Mike Smith.

Our family would like to say a Special Thank You to the Administrative Staff, Registered Nurses, CNA’S, Kitchen, Housekeeping and Activities Staff who have been involved with caring for our Mom for the last eight years at Lee County Health Care in Leesburg, GA. Your concern and care for your Residents and their Families is the best. Also, we would like to thank Albany Community Hospice for their special care and concern.
