Opal Berniece Guerin Bivens

Opal Berniece Guerin Roberson Bivens died peacefully on July 6th, 2017 at home with her family at her side. She was 94 years old. She was born in Hazelton North Dakota to Jackson and Viola Guerin August 27th 1922. Her family moved to Indiana when she was 9 years old. She graduated from Bunkerhill High School in 1939. She lived and worked in Converse, Marion, and Gas City Indiana for a few years. She enlisted in the US Navy as a WAVE in 1944, during WWII.
She met the love of her life and the father of her children, Franklin Roberson, in Pensacola Florida. They were married in 1944 and she was a military wife and wonderful Mother for the next 25 years. She was a member of the VFW and was very active in Eastern Star for many years.
She loved her family dearly and enjoyed making homes for them at many different duty stations. Her love of traveling took her throughout the United States, Guam, Europe, Canada and Mexico. She loved writing short stories, reading and aerobics. She was married again in 1976 to Ralph Bivens.
Survivors include her daughters; Carol Emerson (Luther) of Albany; Donna Elliott and Lynne Kaser, both of Clermont Florida; brother Harold Guerin of Marion, IN; grandchildren Tony Rodeghier of Thomasville; Melissa Bartlett (Eddie) of Jacksonville FL; Monic Miller of Orlando FL; step-grandchildren Steve Emerson (Becky) of Leesburg; Stacey Griffin (Hank) of Fayetteville AR; great-grandchildren Brooke, Blake and Cameron Bartlett of Jacksonville FL; step great-grandchildren Heather Pines (Conley)of Leesburg; Katlyn Aultman (Mark) of Cordele; Georgia Griffin of Fayetteville AR; step great-great-grandchildren; Cole Thompson and Emerson Pines both of Leesburg; cousin, Lucille Stewart of Wabash IN; and many nieces and nephews, in-laws, and friends who also loved her dearly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by both husbands; daughter, Mona Miller of Orlando FL; brother, Gerald Guerin of Colorado; and sister Beatrice Leach of Marion IN.
Her wishes were to be cremated and have her ashes spread over the many places she lived. There will be no memorial service at her request. Her family will be at the home of Luther and Carol Emerson in Albany. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made to Affinis Hospice, 507 N Jefferson St, Albany, GA 31701. Mathews Funeral Home, in Albany, is handling all arrangements.
