Nancy Wilson Stryker passed peacefully on April 1, 2025, at her home in Albany, Georgia surrounded by love. Her Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday April 12, 2025, 11:00 a.m. at Mathews Funeral Home in Albany Georgia. Pastor Don Culley will officiate. The family will receive friends and family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Nancy was born on November 27, 1946, to the late James and Eloise Wilson of Hapeville, Georgia where she graduated from Hapeville High School. After high school, she attended and graduated from Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing in June of 1967 alongside her lifetime best friend, Jan Maddox Braley (lovingly known as Rheumy). She met and married the love of her life, Robert G. “Bob” Stryker November 8th, 1969. A love that would last over 51 years. They were inseparable. Throughout their marriage, they lived in Andalusia, Alabama, and Cary, North Carolina, before settling in Lilburn, Georgia in 1985, following a career move.
Nancy will be remembered for her kindness, helping mothers with their newborn sugar babies (as she called them), and her unwavering love for her family. Her non-stop smile and cheerful disposition were gifts to everyone who knew her. Nancy became a very dedicated nurse with an extensive list of accomplishments and certifications. Initially, those closest to Nancy questioned if she was well suited for nursing-and with good reason. Nancy tended to pass out when she went into a hospital. That all changed when she was hospitalized as a teenager and inspired by a wonderful nurse to give the profession a try! Thank goodness she did, because her compassion for obstetric care left a legacy of support for families across generations during her 48-year career! She was well known for her famous greeting, “Hey Dahlin” and her love of redheads! She was not only a dedicated nurse, but also a devoted mother. Her schedule was packed, but she never missed a beat, always taking the kids to all their sports and making sure dinner was on the table every night with a glass of milk. She also had a knack for cooking and will be remembered for her “Stryker Chicken.” The children had the best of both worlds with Nancy as their mother, and Bob as their father. Between work and family, she still managed to find the time to read her favorite books, get pedicures, take an afternoon nap, go shopping, and always be up for a reason to celebrate someone or something. She loved the lord, her sisters, Georgia Tech, a nice cup of coffee, being at the beach, drinking a good margarita, and kicking her shoes off to go barefoot. Her fun-loving zest for life leaves us smiling! Nancy will be missed by so many that she touched personally and professionally. A life well lived indeed.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Bob Stryker and her son Jeff Stryker. Survivors include her children, Rob (Crystal) Stryker of Albany, GA and Carrie Stryker of Newnan, GA, and three grandchildren, Bailey McCullers, Seth McCullers of Albany, GA and Cayla Barnett of Social Circle, GA, two sisters, Janet Harris of St. Simons, GA, and Patti (Hugh) Moore of Stockbridge, GA. and cousins Sherry Glisson (Tom), along with many beloved nieces and nephews, and her long-time best friend of 70 years, Jan Braley, lovingly known as “Rheumy.”
Those desiring may make memorials in memory of Nancy to the ALS Association at ALS.org in honor of her son Jeffrey Stryker and his battle with this unthinkable disease. Thank you.
